MIMRA: About

MIMRA is the guise of Icelandic singer, composer and producer María Magnúsdóttir. Her music could best be described as electro-acoustic folk-pop or orchestral pop. MIMRA performs her multi dimensional arrangements as a solo act on stage. She brilliantly sings along electronic beats and soothing synths, using loop pedals and keyboard to her aid with extravagant results.

MIMRA released the album Sinking Island to critical acclaim in October 2017. The album contains twelve original songs written and produced by MIMRA, combining electro-pop with orchestral arrangements. The album is available on CD and vinyl as well as through all major streaming services.

,,She carves her own space between electronic vibes and multi-layered classic arrangements for a full band. From the very first song of the album, Our Great Escape, MIMRA grabs attention with her wide range of voice and deep passion in personal lyrics. If you look for being touched by music, you will get it here.” – Rvk on Stage

María Magnúsdóttir studied jazz vocals and composition at The Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, 2011-2015. She then graduated with distinction from Goldsmiths University of London in 2016 with a Masters degree in Popular Music, a program known for its alumni including James Blake and Rosie Lowe. In London she had the opportunity to write and produce alongside producers such as AOBeats (US), SAKIMA (GB) and Slow Shudder (US).

MIMRA is currently based in Reykjavík, Iceland. She has taken part in all sorts of musical collaborations threading a path from jazz and soul towards electronica. Besides her solo project she is one half of electro-pop duo Early Late Twenties and regularly performs as a jazz singer. María currently teaches singing and pop songwriting, writes for various media, arranges music for choirs and regularly performs live shows.
